What Happened To Jodi Huisentruit?

On June 27, 1995, a twenty-seven year old News Anchor named Jodi Huisentruit disappeared in Mason City, Iowa. A few of her possessions and her bent car keys were found outside, near her car, but no trace of her, anywhere. She never made it to work that morning, and has now been missing for over twenty-three years, and I will see if the Tarot has any new suggestions. I have used a horoscope layout here, because that type of layout often gives bits and pieces of information that would otherwise go overlooked in cases such as this, wherein a person has been missing for a very long time.

The first house, describing the situation, itself, has given us Temperance, reversed. When this card falls reversed, it details conflicts and bad combinations of all kinds, and also competing interests. This shows us the general atmosphere, and perhaps the motive, of the person with whom Jodi had this encounter. There was a general feeling that Jodi had the upper hand, or some coveted advantage, that someone else had desired. Moving along to the second house, of material possessions and money, we find the ace of pentacles, reversed. This reinforces what we saw in the first house concerning competing interests: someone envied Jodi. The third house, of communication, relatives, and short journeys, gives us the Page of Pentacles. Here we have a possibility of a valid tip in the form of someone who is willing to go on the record and describe everything he or she noticed on the day Jodi disappeared. Putting the puzzle pieces together has been difficult, and I will come back to this card later, after I have interpreted cards in corresponding positions. I don't think this witness's information has been completely understood and correlated, yet. The Knight of Cups appears in the fourth house, which governs environment, particularly that of the home. Here, we have validity to the information offered by the Page of Pentacles, and we also see that Jodi is "not far from home". Cups also refer to water, and often point us west; but I still do not think that Jodi is far from either her home, or where she was last seen. This knight is also the person who will put together all the information in a relevant way, which will involve an understanding of emotional nuances. This crime was, somehow, quite personal.

The three of cups appears, reversed, in the fifth house, of pleasure, romance, entertainment, fun, and creativity. Sometimes children are indicated by this house, but as Jodi did not have children, we will focus on the other aspects of the fifth house. The reversed three of cups usually tells us about a relationship that went too far, too fast; or, simply, too much of something. It can sometimes point to success that did not pan out, or to an investment that did not pay off. Somehow, this dynamic played into Jodi's situation. Next, we find the eight of pentacles, reversed, in the sixth house of inconveniences, employment, mundane affairs, and co-workers and and employees. When we see the eight of pentacles reversed, we are seeing a situation involving lack of talent in one's profession, or the risk of losing employment. This does not describe Jodi, but it does describe someone around her. So far, this reading has described professional, and possibly romantic, jealousy as a motive to lash out at her.

We have the seven of cups, reversed, in the seventh house of partnerships and agreements. This house also signifies marriage, but it covers all types of partnerships. The seven of cups shows common sense and realistic goals when we find it reversed, and it shows that Jodi was interested in her career when she disappeared; and did not scatter her energy into empty pursuits. This bothered someone. It bothered someone so much that the Tower came up reversed in the eighth house of joint finances and shared expenses. The Tower, in reversal, tells of false imprisonment, false accusations, and oppression and the eighth house is also an indicator of death, so I really do not like this combination, here. This is the first confirmation that we may not find Jodi alive and well, and I always hope I am wrong about things like this. The ninth house, of justice, religious ideals, and long journeys; yields the two of wands, reversed. This refers to better forensic science than what was available in 1995, and it shows not only the challenges for the culprit, but for law enforcement. Witnesses tend to forget things over long periods of time, and sometimes cannot be found in cold cases. The culprit may also get a surprise when something as simple as a fingerprint or a some DNA that could not be correlated in 1995 suddenly becomes relevant, today. This case still faces a lot of challenges in order to become resolved. The Page in the third house represents information or a tip, and the ninth house represents the challenge in following up on the tip. Jodi was taken in different directions, somehow, and no one really had eyes on the person who took her, after she was last seen. Still, I do not think she was taken terribly far; between two and fifteen miles.

The tenth house, of career and public life, shows the Magician, reversed. This is abuse, abuse of power, sometimes abuse of authority, and the general use of skill for destruction. Here, we have yet another reference to Jodi's career! This is also another reference to the personal nature of the crime. It shows that Jodi was not a random victim, but chosen. In the eleventh house of hopes, wishes, ambitions, organizations , and friends, we find the Star. Jodi has a lot of friends and admirers who still want to see her found and want to see this case resolved. "Star" could also be a mundane reference to location, as could the word, "south". The Star also describes small bodies of water, such as lakes, where the stars can be seen reflected in the water. Once again, I do not think she was taken away from the general area. At the end, in the twelfth house, we have the two of swords, reversed. The twelfth house concerns secret enemies, self undoing, and often, death. This card shows a new moon, and there was, indeed, a new moon between June 27 and June 28 of 1995, so I think the twelfth house correlation here is that Jodi died shortly after she was abducted. The person responsible thought he could keep his actions undetected and secret forever, but the reversed two of swords also indicates sudden movement in matters that were once stalemated, so there is hope of new information leading to Jodi.

Alicia Marie Folkers Hummel

On June 1, 2015, Alicia Marie Folkers Hummel was found deceased in Sioux City, Iowa. Her death was determined to be a homicide. A year later, there are no suspects identified, and her murder is unsolved. We will see if the Tarot can be of any help to shed light on who killed her and why.

The reading begins with the Queen of Wands, reversed, crossed by the ace of pentacles. This is interesting; we have a jealous, easily angered woman who is panting after a material prize of some sort, and this shows up as an important part of Alicia's case. In the causal background, we have the Hanged Man, which is a card of waiting and sometimes, of personal sacrifice. Then, as an event in Alicia's recent past, we have the three of swords, reversed. This speaks of family quarrels and of a distinct possibility that Alicia knew a sensitive secret about someone and compromised that person.Watching all this is the Queen of Swords. As this queen falls upright, and her suit is swords, it appears that she is either law enforcement or connected to the judicial system. She is intent upon solving this crime. A challenge she faces, however; is the Page of Swords, reversed. This is a young person who knows all of the information necessary to make an arrest and convict a suspect, but he is lying.

In the place of fears, we find the four of pentacles, reversed. Money was a factor here, yet money and resources are still being wasted. Alicia's killer(s) have not been able to completely cover their tracks and use any resources they had hoped to gain from this act. The physical environment is described by the Wheel of Fortune. This is partly a facade;the murder has not made anyone feel terribly lucky. The other message indicated by this card is that no one has been arrested yet, and the guilty party(s) is feeling as if there will never be an arrest. In hopes, we have the ten of swords, reversed. This almost speaks for itself: when this card falls reversed, we see a temporary position of power, and that is exactly what is driving the hopes and fears of the perpetrator, here. The ten of swords can also be a violent card. The reading ends with the seven of pentacles, reversed. This is clearly anxiety about money, and worry that the very reason for the murder will not come to fruition.

An important factor in solving this murder is in the reversed four of pentacles and the Wheel of Fortune. Right now, evidence is being hidden and stored, yet it remains useless to the guilty party while hidden and stored. As soon as it is no longer hidden, but in use, the case will be solved. Something else I picked up from the four of pentacles in reverse is an ever-so-slight lack of care on the part of the guilty party with evidence left near the crime scene. The crime will eventually be solved, seemingly by a stroke of luck.

Who Killed Michelle Martinko?

Michelle Martinko was murdered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1979, at a shopping mall. To this day, her killer has not been caught. So we will see what the Tarot can tell us about the culprit, and a motive.

I used a horoscope spread for this reading. In the first house, we get the perpetrator, who is described here as the King of Cups, reversed. This is a man who is not only dishonest, but violent......as we already know. Look for him to have been a bit older than eighteen year old Michelle. Not much older chronologically, but more experienced. In the second house, which tells us about the means and resources by which this crime was committed, we see the six of wands. This means that the killer's most convenient tool was the ability to get Michelle's attention and trust. Had she simply ignored him, history might have panned out differently. Next, in the third house, of short journeys and communication, we have the ten of pentacles. This house also deals with memory and memories; and with inheritance. In the mundane aspect, this card's appearance here has me wondering if there is or was surveillance from a bank that could help; or perhaps, and employee from from a bank who saw something. In more personal terms, it is possible that there was some discussion between Michelle and her killer about money, gifts, or shopping. She wasn't robbed, so this will not lead us to the motive.

In the fourth house, we get some solid information about the killer. This house deals with the home environment and property, and the card that comes up is the eight of pentacles, reversed. The message is clear: whoever committed this crime was unethical in his use of his employment skills, and may have had trouble keeping a job. In the fifth house, of creativity and pleasure, we find the eight of wands. This is a bit sick and disturbing; it points to an individual who finds violence amusing. Also, it points to someone who really thought this murder would resolve something. Following this, in the sixth house, we get the seven of cups. The sixth house is all about mundane, everyday relationships and it also covers work relationships.....yet the seven of cups is about illusions and delusions. Could this killer have mistaken Michelle for someone who had wronged him? Or could Michelle have resembled someone he didn't like, or reminded him of someone against whom he had a grudge? This is pointing very strongly to the killer and Michelle possibly knowing each other as acquaintances, but Michelle not having done anything, at all, to arouse his paranoia.

The seventh house of partnerships gives us the ace of wands, reversed. Once again, we are directed to the killer's problems with employment and work relationships. Somehow, this played a role. In the eighth house, of death, legacies, karma, and debt, we have the Wheel of Fortune, which is lucky chance. So our killer had intentions of killing someone, and his opportunity with Michelle constituted "luck", inasmuch as he was concerned! Next, in the ninth house, of law, higher education, "the establishment", and long journeys, we have the Empress, which is the "mother" card in the deck. At the surface, this truly appears to add to the confusion, especially about the motive, but there are some possible interpretations. This is an influence or a person who is not only motherly, but productive. This is not Michelle, but the real reason for the killer's rage.

The tenth house deals with ambition and career goals, and in this house, we get the Star. This is inspiration, and some sort of assistance that the killer got; he had a very good enabler. In fact, it may have been his own mother, harking back to the Empress. That is why he hasn't been identified. In the eleventh house, of hopes, wishes, friends, and social life; we have the Sun. This tells me that the killer has been in plain sight for much of this time, undetected, socializing and living his life. In the twelfth house, of secrets and secret enemies, we have the four of cups, reversed. The four of cups reversed speaks of new relationships and moving on to new circumstances. Seeing it here, in the twelfth house of secrets and self undoing, it appears that the killer moved on, after killing Michell Martinko, and successfully covered his tracks.

Update: A man named Jerry Lynn Burns has been arrested and will go on trial in the murder of Michelle Martinko. He was found through DNA that was left at the crime scene.

Could Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins Still Be Alive?

Someone recently asked me to do a reading about Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins, who have both been missing from Iowa since July of this year. I have explained in the past that life and death are sometimes different things spiritually, and since I believe in reincarnation, it's possible for me to get a "yes" answer even if the person I am asking about has died! But sometimes, there are clues in a reading that can lead me to believe that a missing person will, indeed, resume life as the same person with the same identity assumed before he or she went missing, and I will do a reading for these two girls, looking for such clues.

The first three cards, representing the past, are the ten of cups, reversed; the Devil, reversed; and the five of cups, reversed. This already does not look hopeful, because of the ten of cups falling reversed. This indicates betrayal, very likely by a family member(s). I do not like to see family members betray children. The Devil, when he falls reversed, sometimes tells us that we can become free of something that has bound us or hindered us, but he also speaks of indecision in this position. I believe that is the case here. Someone simply was not thinking clearly regarding the disappearance these two girls, or had not thought the whole plan through. The five of cups reversed does speak to the possibiltity that the girls may come back.....this is one of the clues to which I referred in the above pargraph concerning life or death. The card, when reversed, also tells of old friends coming back into the picture, so perhaps someone who has known the family and the girls for a long time has information or can help.

The cards I drew for the present are the Lovers; the Queen of Swords; and the ten of wands, reversed. The Lovers usually speaks of relationships, but sometimes of choices. At this time, the fate of these two girls is in the hands of a couple, and one other person, the Queen of Swords. She is the one influencing the couple involved. Once again, we get betrayal, in the form of the ten of wands upside down, but this time, the betrayal is a little more coutroom based, somehow; and a little less family based. Judging from this, I feel safe guessing that these girls have seen or discovered something that others did not want made public. Someone felt that the best way to protect this knowledge was to hide the girls.

The future brings us Justice, the eight of wands, and Strength, reversed. That message is quite simple. There will be justice, no one is going to get out of any legal difficulty by hiding Lyric and Elizabeth. The eight of wands promises that somehow, in an almost unexpected and surprising way, the girls will be found. Strength reversed warns of abuse of power, though. That is a bit worrisome; however, there is nothing to indicate that the girls are no longer with us, unless the theme of betrayal runs deeper than I initially thought. This reading does focus on the motive for hiding Lyric and Elizabeth. Whoever has them hidden was already hiding some secrets from law enforcement and the judicial system.

What happened to Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook?

A week ago, an eight year old girl and an eleven year old girl, Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook, disappeared in Iowa. Their bicycles were found last Friday afternoon beside Lake Meyer, but no sign of the girls. Their missing persons poster is to the left, along with a phone number for anyone with information to call. Here's the reading: the beginning is the two of swords, crossed by the Fool. This looks like a planned event that needed an opportunity in order to happen. It also tells of a temporary truce in a family disagreement. Beneath this, we have the King of Swords. This is often law enforcement or a lawyer or a judge, yet here we have him cast as someone who was ALREADY INVOLVED with this family. So it is aready beginning to look like the disappearance had something to do with a pending legal decision. Drifting into the past, yet knowing something about the present, we also have the reversed Page Of Swords. This is a youngish character, who is very likely still a child, who knew something that should have been told to authorities but did not do so when the time was right. The chariot appears as the best thing that can happen here. This is not only a card of vehicles and ways to go places, but it is a card of balence. The charioteer must balence the forces of two horses that want to go two different directions if any progress is to be made. The Queen of Wands is someone who will come into the future of this investigation. She is a woman with a lot of energy and a creative thinker. She may have blond or red hair, and is impulsive. She is also determined to find Elizabeth and Lyric.

Temperance comes up as an immediate problem for the surrounding issues. When this card comes up as a "problem", it usually indicates drug abuse or alcohol abuse. Sometimes, it means lack of balence, or that componants of the situation are very delicately balenced. The tower comes up to describe the environment of the girls. From this, I can extrapolate that whoever was responsible for these girls knew better than to expose them to whoever or whatever made them disappear. The Tower tells of ruin after refusing to make appropriate changes. It is associated with imprisonment, legal losses, and bad karma. As a location, it would indicate a building in desperate need of repair, ruined by the elements. The six of wands is hoped for good news. While this may yet be possible, the ace of pentacles reversed has the final say, and this is about money. Judging from this reading, it looks as if there were corrupt people involved with this family, and one or both girls either knew something or saw something that made someone else nervous about matters judicial, and these two girls became casualties. Lets hope they are found very soon.

Afterthought: Look for someone who had or has a good chance of going to jail without moving these two girls out of the way.
